Hola! What a great time to learn a foreign language! Junior high students at Sacred Heart School will be learning Spanish this year, and will have a new way to connect with the people around them in our community.
My name is Rebecca Gedney. I am the 4th grade instructional assistant, a Spanish teacher and the proud mother of three boys at SHS - Keegan, Caleb and Joseph Gedney. My husband Joshua and I have lived in Jeffersonville for 10 years now. We both grew up around Louisville, KY. I have taught Spanish I and II in each of the following schools: Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, KY, and Holy Family and Providence High School in Indiana. I am also certified in Jr./Sr. High Mathematics.
I lived for 6 weeks in Mexico and taught English for 18 months in Hanoi, Vietnam where I developed a love for the people and their languages. I really enjoy the challenge of piecing together both the grammar rules and vocabulary!
I believe a beginning language class should focus on listening to the spoken language. I have found that the students enjoy it when we have a lot of movement and fun! But don't worry - we will also provide just the right amount of grammar instruction. My primary goal at Sacred Heart is to help students develop an interest and confidence in Spanish as they approach high school. I anticipate our classes developing the skills necessary to earn high school credit for Spanish I.
